If you have an LCD monitor, I strongly advise you to watch this in HD. It's absolutely mindblowing.

The entire ecosystem of Pandora is completely CGI, the Na'Vi (the blue tribe) are completely CGI and feature new revolutionary motion-capture facial expressions. Pretty much everything outside of the live actors is completely CGI. This film is budgeted at almost $300+ million and is considered the highest budgeted film of all time.

It definitely has a lot of expectations to live up to, but after viewing this trailer it looks like it will live up to those expectations. The best way to see this film is at an IMAX in 3D, seeing as the real draw outside of the photoreal CGI is the breakthrough 3D technology Cameron had developed for this film.

I can't watch that link on this computer, but I did see a trailer and it looks very interesting. Not sure if any movie warrants a $300mil tag, but if it makes more then I guess it was good business.

You really have a way of overhyping things.

Looks interesting though, seems like alot going on.

We need a new OC, and maybe head coach too...

What exactly have I overhyped? This film is to be seen in IMAX in 3D. You really don't get the full effect until you see the CGI in 3D, which is unlike the 3D being used in theatres right now. It's a new type of 3D.

The whole point of this film IS the CGI. Pretty much everything in the film is CGI. I do agree some shots look fake, but that's strictly because the entire rendering process isn't complete. There's still a lot of time to complete everything and there's no doubt in my mind that WETA Digital will make it all look perfect.

It does have a lot of standards to live up to, but I believe it will considering the 3D technology will help enhance the effects.

I think Cameron and Fox messed up by releasing this AFTER 'District 9', though... which easily features the best photoreal effects to date. The mechsuit in that movie devours the powersuits in the Avatar trailer.

I gotta agree with you on D9, the best part of that movie was how real it looked and felt.. Avatar seems to go the complete opposite, trying to make the "real" scenes look more cgi instead of making the cgi look more real... But I'm definately hoping the 3D will make it look a little better.. I like cameron, loved alien 1-2 and terminator 1-2, (though watching terminator 2 now makes me realise that it was really pretty cheesey), but he always seems to have the ability to bring out emotiones in his viewers, so I really hope he succedes with this one

Dang it! Soon as I go to watch it it's been pulled down!

My two cents...

There's an extended trailer with all new footage. It's not in HD, but it's good enough quality to give you an understanding of just how ridiculously detailed this movie is.

EDIT: nevermind, HD option is now available. It looks mindblowing on an LCD monitor.

The trailer was shown today during the NFL pre-game show. Looks like a interesting movie.

Looked a lot better on the monitor in HD, then the older TV I saw it on today. It looks good, ill give it that. I am more substance though, so hopefully it has that.

From the trailer it looks like typical Hollywood crap. Once again America sending off troops to kill off the peaceful inhabitants of a land for Corporate interest. Gee what's new from the land of the left? I guess we're out of locals to take advantage of? Does Obama make a cameo visit in this to stop the evil corporations in the nick of time? ROFLMAO.

Obviously I'm missing something here. I just watched the animated characters with the sound off waiting for the game. There's a liberal theme to this movie? Confused

That was my thought on it also, I'd like to know the 'carbon footprint' of all these preachers of the eco-gospel. I know Al Gore's is high, what a false prophet. Does look good though.

My two cents...

As usual. Just listen to the trailer. It's the killing of the Indians all over again.

Other than the political drivel I actually agree. It looks like typical moralizing hollywood crapolla to me. I'll bet it's gonna be pretty to look at but from that 3.5 minute trailer I feel like I could pretty much tell you the whole script it 3 sentences. Cameron can't help himself, he basically does that same stong versus weak, weak appeals to heart of the strong, heart of the strong turns against itself story over and over again. BUT, people want escapism these days and I predict he film will put butts in seats.

Also, gotta gripe... the aliens and alien world looks like some stoner's version of a blacklight velvet painting. A little more imagination than a run of the mill star trek episode might be appreciated.
