He does because he is. Nothing wrong with that. Powell is black and he's a moderate (meaning can't take a stance) so I can see his desire to have a Black become President. General Officers are very political. How do you think most of them became Generals? He also endorsed President Bush twice. So do you now think his judgement is good? |

Is Kissinger supporting McCain because hes white? It would be nice and easy for McCain supporters if this were the case, its the only way to write it off without it stinging...Nevermind the reasons he gave...silly him. |

Amazing! Very rational. So you think his judgment is bad now? What about the list of conservatives, generals, and even Eisenhower's granddaughter, and former republican, are they endorsing Obama because they're black? Rush is single-handily responsible for perpetuating the divisiveness that this country suffers from today. He makes Joe McCarthy look like Barney. The thing is Rush kinda looks like Barney. |

More than two hundred Generals and retired Generals are supporting McCain including Gen. Petreaus I'm sure. Your comments on Rush are childish. Rush commented on what is obvious. You can't see that? I didn't say Gen.Powells choice is bad, I said I understand it and it's because Obama is black. Why do you think he endorsed him? His experience? ROFLMAO. You know why as well as Rush. Eisenhower was the Powell of his generation. Eisenhowher today would have been a democrat. |

I don't think he judgement is any better or worse than when he voted for Bush. I think he is voting his heart and consciences. The fact that he can step back away from his party and make a decision based on other areas of concern instead of the party line should be commended by all. And yes I would say the same thing if he was a democrat voting for McCain. I am a true believer in voting your consciences and voting for who you believe is the best person to do the job, not just the person who the party tells you to vote for. |

I think you give Rush to much credit, I don't listen to him at all about anything. Mostly because I wouldn't know where to go to listen to him. However, if I could listen to him, it is still my responsibility as a citizen to form my own opinion. If people are not strong enough willed to do that then they deserved to be duped. I think allot of people are like me they don't listen to Rush, cause they don't know where to listen to him or they don't know him at all. In my opinion Rush is a non-factor, unless your talking about the group Rush. |

In response to the original thread topic,Obama's civilian military, doesn't this scare you at all?I've listened to Obama's speeches several times regarding this, and it's insane.
Doesn't this sound a little Saddam-ish? Having another private military,as large as the one we have now.Kinda like Saddam's private army huh. Next is censoring the internet and doing away with free speech.Obama has eluded to this many times. So on top of being a welfare state,Obama will have his private army, censor speech so noone will be allowed to speak against him (ala the "fairness" doctrine),and abortion will be used as a form of birth control.Obama also wants to make it so kids don't need parental consent to have an abortion. Let's just have our kids all growing up with no sense of responsibility or consequence. But then again,in the big O's own words, who would want to be "punished with a baby"? Let's reward bad decisions and poor work ethic, and punish hard working people that are trying to do things legitimately.Doesn't sound like the America I love and fought for. |

You've listened to Obama's speeches??? I highly doubt it. You and Dawg57 may have heard a speech or two, but you definitely didn't LISTEN. That would go against everything Republicans stand for. You're too narrow-minded and bull-headed to see past your party's lies, or even the Dem's lies for that matter. You can't think for yourselves, so you just take verbatim whatever the Republican party shoves down your throat. There ya go again, comparing Obama to Saddam Hussein. Yeah, that's intelligent. I must have missed the speeches where Obama said he wanted to censor the interenet and toss out free speech. Do you just spew this crap out to anyone who will listen? Thank you for your service to our Country. I truly mean that. But you're lost when it comes to politics. All the crap you've listed that Obama supposedly wants to do, would never happen because of a little thing called CHECKS AND BALLANCES. All the problems facing the US right now can all be attributed to Republicans. You voted for Bush...TWICE. NOT ME! ---------------------------------------- Annnnndddddd Punt! |

A civilian military is not the same thing as what Saddam had. His army was his personal army that did his bidding and butchered people. Obama thinks that everyone should serve in some capacity as a citizen. Isn't that what being a citizen is all about. How better to have a government of the people, for the people, and by the people than to have people serve in some capacity. In today's United States we have a government that is of the wealthy, for the wealthy, and by the wealthy. What's wrong with encouraging people to care about each other and society as a whole? Nothing is wrong with it, unless you have all the wealth. If you served in the military and I am assuming that you did based on your comments, why is it that the United States goes to places like Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, and other places? They go to restore or help implement democracy and to give those people a life that we take for granted. We fight for the little people, the poor, and the hungry overseas. Don't you think it's time we took care of our own. I sure as hell do. Next, it is not possible in today's society to censor the internet or get rid of free speech. Which are actually the same thing by the way. Our right to free speech is Constitutionally guaranteed and not even the President can take that away. I have never heard Obama speak of censoring the internet or eliminating free speech. If he has give us a link so that we can all see for ourselves. I do not call caring for those less fortunate than ourselves being welfare state. Again it is time to look inward at our own countries poor, struggling, hungry, and less fortunate people and help them. If you are or were a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, or Airman these are the people you fought or are fighting for so why not fight for those same things here at home. I am retired from the Navy and that's what I want you and every person that is a citizen of this great nation to fight for. I would do no less for you. On abortion, Obama believes in having a choice. However, he wants people in general, children specifically to be more educated. It is proven that education can help be a deterent in teen age pregnancies. If you have read his plans, listened to him speak on this you would know that he does not want our children to be irresponsible. He actually challenges us as parents to do things right, educate our children, teach them right from wrong. He believes that it is the parents as well as the educators that should be leading our kids to a brighter future. Well this was much longer than I had planned but you wanted to know what people were looking at in Obama that makes them want to vote for him. I think I have given you enough to understand their thinking. And I happen to think the same way. What has McCain done to warrant your vote? |

ET I agree with everything you said up to it being all the Republicans fault. I think it would be better if we put the blame on everyone. There really isn't anyone that hasn't had some role in the situation we face today. That includes you, dawg57, anarchy2day, usngunz75, weinerdog, and even an maybe especially myself. I think it is time to stop blaming others and just start working on fixing the problems. I say this because it is hard to sit down next to someone to work out problems when there is a finger stuck in your face. Just remember that when you point a finger at someone there are 3 fingers pointing back at you. |

Thanks Farm.I was just retalliating from his unwarranted attacks, though that's usually the way it goes. The guy hitting back gets the blame.I know I shouldn't belittle myself and go down to his level, but the gloves tend to come off when some jerk wants to question my motives and decision making regarding this country.
I've been in many political (and other) discussions on here, and never once have I insulted anyone for how they feel,or disrespected them by assuming I know what someones done in the past, how they felt or what they've been through.Other posters can attest to that. I love debating opposing views on the issues, not to try to force my views on anyone, but to try to find the best solution to problems and make educated decisions. We could probably have some pretty good discussions on things. But of course there are SOME posters on here that are too immature and close minded that they can't have an intelligent discussion. |

I think in uncertain times people become tempered more easily. Everyone thinks they know what's right for the country and when the country in general and the economy specifically are as bad as they are right now it's better if we come together and work through the problems. I don't know for sure that one candidate or another will make a better President. All I can hope for is that if the person I chose wins that he will be guided well and make the decisions that will keep us safe and strong. There is to much mudslinging going on in this election and I hate it personally. I try to stay objective, but then people try to force stuff down your throat and it completely sends me the other way. Anyways I think everyone really wants what is best for the country. |

Understandable. |

That's just it.I'm not voting for someone because of race, religion or any other reason other than wanting a safe and prosperous nation. There are a lot of agendas in politics, which is one reason why Obamas radical associations are important to me. I think all of us would agree on most things. We all want a safe nation,to live comfortably,to be healthy and be free. There are just different ways of getting there.Socialist ways,IMO,just don't do the job,and really only makes more problems and wastes money, rewards laziness and punishes success. Was I allowed to say socialist? I hear that's a racist term now. |

Well obviously there's the military/pow thing.Which doesn't qualify a person to be president, but he has a deep devotion and has sacrificed beyond belief for this country. That kind of devotion to country is something that's necessary for a US President. In this day and age,a Commander in Chief absolutely needs to know military fundamentals and strategies. He has always fought against irresposible government spending. He's been one of the Senators that's been most willing to work with other parties to get things done. I don't care much for McCains healthcare plans, but I like Obama's healthcare plan even less,so whatever there. Both plans suck. McCain believes in less government control.Obama wants to grow the government to twice the size it is now. I don't understand how so many of you are willing to let government be in control of so many aspects of your lives.Does the government do anything right or efficiently? Nope. Do you want government in charge of your: healthcare, mortgage, your thermostat, retirement, college etc... Look at VA hospitals. Not exactly real well run hospitals.how about social security? Department of motor vehicles? The government has proven time and time again that it can't manage what it's already trying to do,and you want more? I'd like to make my own decisions.Who my healthcare provider is,how I plan for retirement, how I put my kid through college, how much I put in my IRA/401k,if I want to pay for the gas to put in my SUV then it's on me,I want to keep the right to protoct my home and family. I want to keep the right to become prosperous for my hard work, and not have the government in my way and reaching in my wallet while trying to achieve my goals and dreams. That's why I'm voting for him. Just say no to socialism. |

I take great offense to that remark. I haven't worked all my life serving not only the country, but giving time and money to those less fortunate. But don't tell me i'm part of the problem because I disagree with a inexperienced Socialist who wants to drag this country into the depths of socialism that has failed everywhere it's been tried. You may want that for your family and children but I don't. Tell me when Barrack Obama has ever reached across the isle and voted with Republicans? Can you name one time? And I don't mean this silly Bailout bill. Name one time before running for president. His assosciations with domestic terrorist William Ayers and the racsist pastor Wright should tell you all you need to know about Obama and what his core values are. But keep your head in the sand if you wish. I'm telling you that you have no idea how this guy is going to hurt this country. But sometimes people have to experience it to believe it. |
