I am a Democrat. I vote a straight Democratic ticket every election. Some would and probably will call me names, or make accusations towards my intellect for this, but I am a union electrician. Unions support Democrats. You can follow a timeline within our union and see when work was good for us, and when things were bad for us. Shocking enough, when a Democrat holds the white house, work is more plentiful for us, than when a Republican is in office. That timeline goes back to the early 70's due to the fact that my Dad is also in the same union I am in.
A wise old timer once told me, "A working man supporting Republicans is like chickens supporting Colonel Sanders." I don't agree totally with the Democrats on every issue, but other issues don't seem to matter much, when you can't pay the bills. So you could say that I scratch the back of those that put some scratch in my wallet. By the way, everyone remember to vote tomorrow! Unless you"re a Republican, then vote on Wednesday!....lol |

My father and stepfather were union autoworkers till they retired. They were both laid off for weeks under Carter-a democrat. Then Ronnie popped the question, 'Are you better off now...?'
They were after he showed up. I'm also a 'working man' (who that has a job isn't just because his collar is white?) and I supported republicans because my customers are people with money. Like I said earlier in this thread, if they have disposable income, I have essential income (I'm a house painter). The best times this country had seen in decades before the birth of the internet were during the Reagan years. My two cents... Ted |

Preach it!!! We have lived in a 20 year period after Reagan was in office in which we reaped the benefits of his economic and foreign policy actions...Lord only knows what will happen in the 20 year period after the Bush/Obama stimulus debacle...will we ever recover? Im past counting our record....here is to bringing it every week and improving our team as a whole! |

Laid off for WEEKS??? WEEKS??? Well, bein laid off for any amount of time is not good, but if it was just weeks, I don't think that I would get my undies in a bunch over a couple weeks. I have worked in the auto plants, and the UAW membership march to the beat of a different drum. I never seen so much republican propaganda in a union workplace. I can assure you, it is not that way in the construction unions. I have been laid off for WEEKS while a Democrat was in office before too, but it seems more common that I am laid off for many months (many times to the brink of exhausting unemployment benefits) when a Republican is in office. I never said I was never laid off while a Democrat was in office, just that work is more plentiful when they are in office. Maybe just a coinky-dink, but our out of work list has been shrinking the past couple months, is it a coinky-dink, or is there something to this whole Democrat in the White House...You believe what you want to, I'm gonna go with the track record...By the way, when ole Ronny was Prez...my father worked in his jurisdiction approximately one and a half years during that eight year stretch, the rest of the time he was either unemployed, or working in another state. Ask the Air Traffic Controllers how good Reagan was to unions... |

I have voted republican because I was raised by a Blue Collar democrat voting family who always struggled to stay in middle class. I have respect for blue collar workers as these are the people that drive our economy however voting liberal means taking a step backwards.. I have a strong feeling that one must work if they want to accomplish anything in life and that the only thing handed out are hugs and kisses from friends and family... Everything else well you gotta take pride in yourself and work hard to achieve anything!
If Ron Paul runs for President in 2012 I will vote neither Republican or Democrat as he seems like he knows what he is talking about.. Kinda like Ross Perot.. This 2 sided coin is just constantly killing us and like Obama said he was gonna do when he was lobbying we need to eliminate the 2 sides and come together FOR THE PEOPLE.. not come together for yet another hidden agenda. Either way I have seen what Democrats do in office (See Clinton's epic fails) and I have seen what Republicans can do in office (as mentioned above see Regan*) * = Minus War On Drugs as that is an epic fail as well... At this point in my 32 year career in this lovely state of Ohio the only positives came under Republican and all negatives have came directly from Democrat knee-jerk reactions or idiotic policies such as Clintons Housing/Financial strategy that has our Housing market in a state of flux right now.. Bottom line is I do not think everyone deserves anything unless they get off their rear and work for it.. NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE EXCEPT FOR LOVE... LOVE DOES NOT PAY BILLS... Bottom line is we need a Revolution FOR THE PEOPLE.. WIPE OUT ALL POLITICIANS AND START OVER WITH NEW ONES... ONES THAT ARE FOCUSED ON THE RIGHT THINGS! |

Yes, weeks and weeks. How many? Try being without electricity from the middle of summer till you absolutely had to run it in the winter. That many weeks. I asked my stepfather why he was laid off so much during that time, he said 'cause people aren't buying'. I don't really care what Ronny did to any unions to be frank with you. I don't know what the differences are in the mindset between a construction union and an auto union, but the auto workers ancestors served a good purpose, their descendants however ran the Ford Motor Company out of Lorain, Ohio cause they couldn't afford to operate there any more. The largest Ford plant in the world is now a glorified parking lot. I don't know that they build anything there at all (don't live in Lorain anymore). I asked the guy I learned how to paint houses if things really were that different when Reagan took office over Carter, he said he couldn't paint anything for free under Carter. Things changed when Ronny took office. I will add to this later. My two cents... Ted |

Hammer, meet head of nail. Believe it or not unions can and do over step their authority just like every other man made institution. Owners of business, heads of unions and politicians all to easily become corrupt. Ultimate power corrupts ultimately. When this happens the company they were associated with crumbles and it needs to be allowed to crumble. Live and learn. Don't use it as an excuse to extend the power/reach of the federal government. Voting one party for your entire life (assuming you are over 40) is not only asinine it is irresponsible. Both parties have changed so much that it is near impossible to assume you have changed, step for step, with one. Even politicians change parties from time to time.... IMO... |

Honestly, I try not to associate with either. I am left on some and right to the others. I guess my hope is that that puts me right in the middle overall. I believe many of our problems are due to the fact of false loyalty to a party. If everyone had like minds, we'd never have progress. Like someone else said, vote issue to issue.
And for this random union issue that keeps coming up...there are about 40% less unionized jobs today than there were in the 1970's. I could look up the link where I found that at, but I'm too lazy and really don't care to. "A real genius is a guy like Norman Einstein" -Joe Theisman |

Yeah lets see the last time we had a republican congress they forced the government to pay off its debt and even shut it down until congress got off its but to make sure it happened. They PROVED you can have a balanced budget if you force the government to live within its means the same way we have to.
