Interesting question fed_dawg. Are you looking to buy locally or out of state, and what type of habitat?

I was looking for something within a 5 hr commute, definitely wanted to deer hunt, with other possiblities. If it works out right may build on it down the road. I was thinking 10-20 acres. ????
I own 40 acres, and it's unbelieveable the game that passes through the property.

Depends on food and cover. I have 12 acres and have alot of derr in the area. But I keep alot of food on hand for them. Feeders a small plot. The farm next door has alot of cover. If you can get around 40 acres or more and have the time to plant food plots and have good cover for bedding areas. But it will taske time to bring the deer in. And when the rut comes in that all goes out the window. A deer will travel up to 5 miles a day chasing does. But it will come back to its home area. If someone don't get him before he gets back. We have alot of public hunting land in the area. It has produced alot of hugh bucks. And it isn't hunted as hard as some think, Bow hunting that is. Gun season there are more pressure. AEP has over 20,000 acres in one area and 4100 in another. All around Muskingum and Morgan counties. Has camp sites on the land also. I bow hunt it, Thats were I'm going tommorrow. On vacation for 2 weeks to hunt. Will let you kmow if I do any good. I'm pretty picky. I want a 150 inch or better.

You're talking about Whitetail deer, right?

My personal opinion on the rut is that the younger bucks will chase the does. In my experience on my property the big, smart boys are more active 1-2 weeks post rut. They sniff around for the does ferimones and jump them in their bedding areas. But that's my view as to what I usually observe on my land...235 acres in Guernsey county.
