It never effected me, but I do think instead of expanding it that we should improve ways to get rid of it.

It should not surprise anyone that Obama wants to expand affirmative action. He is committed to bringing socialism to this great country of ours. Our country is not perfect and is indeed flawed but affirmative action has not and will not solve the problem it has been directed at. I can only hope that as election day draws nearer and the polls tighten that people are finally seriously considering the peril that they would be putting this great country in if Obama is elected and Reid and Pelosi are turned loose to do his bidding.

You should start this poll in the K-9 consensus forum.
Affirmative Action is the definition of irony. It was created to combat racism but it is itself racist. Fight fire with fire? Pot, this is Kettle. Kettle, Pot. What's that you say? You went to college/trade school/put in years upon years to gain experience in order to make a better life for yourself? Well screw that. This guy's black/yellow/blue/tan so he gets the job. Screw your hard work and effort. What do you think this is, America? It's not fair that you earned a nice living for yourself. We're taking it from you and giving it to someone who hasn't. But, you had no problem with the fact that a lot of places weren't hiring women or non-whites or promoting them to higher waged positions. Then everything was great? What a freaking victim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've heard you shout at people to get off there you know what's and take care of themselves and you complain that you can't, as a white qualified male get hired in this country????????? NOT FAIR?!?!?! What's not fair is that you added the last four sentences after I'd already responded to you. I don't care if you "feel bad" for me or not. I've never been beaten in a job interview by ANYONE! Do you know why? Because I worked my ass off through four years of college WHILE working a FULL TIME job and supporting MY family. Therefore, when I graduated I had a 3.94 GPA AND four years of experience. Those are the kinds of things you do when you want to make a better life for yourself, NOT complaining about how unfair life is.  I'm not bragging. You asked/accused. You do understand that affirmative action was created to fix actual hiring prejudices (not imagined or conspiracy theories) researched, proven, measurable hiring policies based on race or gender. It was also applied to institutions or agencies that received public funds.
Snowdawg, your story is almost identical to the stories of many people who were not hired or promoted by these places. Are you saying that discrimination was OK for them, but not for you? |

Just seeing all the racism throughout the election has made me rethink affirmative action. I use to be totally against it, but now, i still think it might be necessary.
