The Olympics are now over. China won quite impressivly with 51 gold medals.

What did people think of this years Olympics. What sport should be removed and which should be included.

I personally think Rugby should be Olympic sport because it´s quite big and iternational.
Pershaps viritual sports should be included?

Wrestling do I think should be removed cuz of the corruption. The scandal with Ara Abrahamian was just too much.

Anyway it was a very great olympic this year, but with one major scandal from the host country with that girl singing at the cermony.

I personally don't follow a lot of it.

I think a lot of people are pulling for golf to be added. I have no problem with Rugby being added, if enough participating countries play it.

I don't think wrestling should be pulled, its a core olympic sport. They just need to revamp it. Boxing was always suspect, much more so, and its still there.

The biggest scandel to me was the female gymnasts, that was supposedly only 14. IT doesn't make sense to me that she would have her age misreported for like 3 years, then close to the olympics it changed. I didn't even know their was a 16 year limit, I thought a lot of them were 14ish anyway.

The cgi opening ceremony, girl singing, etc... Those were just China trying to make sure to put the best foot forward. I think its sad to do so, but I understand.

Enjoyed the Olympics...only chance to see track happens every four years. Nice to see the off beat events like rowing, water polo, archery etc.

Good call on rugby...it's popular enough to be included.

Personally you can get rid of any event that is judged. I have never taken them seriously...they are more art than competition. I know that gymnastics and diving are popular...but they give in to too much politics and all too often the best don't win gold..

Virtual sports? No way...let the X-Games tackle that...along with the other fringe teen events.

Great Games, China by right, should feel a little ashamed of themselves (fake girl singing, fake birth certificate girl tumbling...)

but all in all good stuff Mike Phelps,WBVB,MBVB,MVB,WBB,MBB and on and on..

Lynch, believe it or not Rugby used to be an Olympic sport along with tug-of-war,polo, lacrosse, and golf. (not a joke) here I found a link~

What I would love to have is Surfing, We are DUE! (perhaps one day I could say, Look Mah! I won a Gold metal!) Wink

But seriously, Surfing is recognised by the IOC and so is Bridge(yes the card game) Roller skating, climbing and golf and in time, who knows what will happen.

Watch out London, Here I COME!

China did great with the games. I think they should be very proud of what the have done for the 2008 Olympics to make them memorable.

As far as underage girls in the Gymnastic events, who cares. They let 14 yr olds dive in the Olympics. They should let any age in IMO for any sport. If they are the best, so be it. It's not like China is going to stop taking these girls at birth and not start their training right away anyways.

Good job China! Now put that lesson of "world peace and harmony" to work be exercising a little humanitarian effort in Tibet, thank you.

I think it is dumb that softball has been excluded because of USA dominance. Then we fail to take gold. Which I wondered if we took a dive just to show we weren't unbeatable.

If dominance is a reason to stop a sport then take away diving. Not really but it would be about the same vain.

The Chinese were unable to protect the American from being murdered. Then the one gymist fell in her vault and still beat out the American...lets not even address the "tie breaker" that robbed us as well. It would not be a big issue as the sport if very subjective so things like that happen. But when it keeps happening to the benefit of the host country you got to start wondering. If judges miss something that is understandable but the rule of odds would suggest that one of the missed subjective calls would go in the benefit of someone other than the host nation at least once.

I think the Olympics should use a BCS computer rankings format...

What I don't like is that Phelps gets 8 medals and team sports only count as one. I think team sports should count as a medal for every member. The 100 meter is a 9 second race and that counts the same as several rounds of 48 minute basketball games with a dozen players? I don't like it.

I wish all the networks would get involved. Each having rights to certain events. That way we could get some options as to what to watch. I would have loved to get to see the shot put and discuss as that is what my son does in track. Along with the 400.

what, im not even really sure exactly what you are saying, bcs format? first of all there are several rounds of swimming before the medal round too.

and i think you said it yourself it is a team sport not an individual sport, so therefore the team got the medal. each member gets a gold. since the giants won the super bowl do they get 53 championships?

Is it fair to blame the Chineese for overloading events with competitors? They still have to perform and beat the others for medals.

As for the TV coverage....it's always weak IMO.

I bet the British would be happy to include darts for 2012. That would quadruple their metal count. Big Grin And after many pints they'd be seeing double the medals more. Wink

Time Warner had 4 extra Olympic channels during the day and they had very little if any nonsense other than the sporting event. When NBC does the network coverage they include all the drama stories, commentators, and very extREME CLOSEUPS. I don't have a huge TV, but it's big enough so that when all you see is nose and eyeballs it's a little bizarre.

^^^ Big Grin

I agree, the other channels aside from the main NBC one were good. In addition to less nonsense, they also had live games live, not taped delay. I saw some sports that I have never seen before when I was up late at night, like badminton. I laughed when I saw it was on, like BADMINTON, this isn't even a sport. Watching it though quickly changed my mind. Even table tennis, I have to say that badminton and table tennis are every bit as much of a sport as golf. I know golf isn't an Olympic event, but many tout it as their "sport", as they guzzle another beer and climb into the golf cart Cool

Did you catch any of the speed walking? Smiler They have to keep one foot on the ground and they have guys on bikes that flash yellow cards at them when they start to look like they're cheating.

I didnt knew that baseball was in the olympics until I read something about it in the knews one week into the Olympics.

Soutkorea won over Cuba right?

Anyway the Soccer tournment had more prestige this year then it had the other Olympics. Even t´hough it only where U23 teams where there quite many stars specially in Argentinas team.

It was fun to see some arabic nations succeed in the games also. I think Bahrain had a qutie good women sprinter.

I think Africa should host the Olympic sometime not only Europe, Asia or America.

The slow motion was really funny! Their stomachs looked like Stretch Armstrong dolls. I thought it was softball they were dropping. Are they dropping baseball? Shoot, drop synchronized swimming. I mean the male version. Heck, the females look a little too happy too.

The skin definitely didn't look right. They looked like a bunch of anorexic women rushing to a porta john, lol. I may be mistaken about the baseball, but I know they said softball is out for the next summer games.

I don't know what's wrong with it, but the picture is supposed be Joe Thomas who I'd imagine eats well. Someone made it for me last year and I couldn't get it to work.

I also tried to delete it with no luck. Operator error I'm sure Wink
