The radio single is TERRIBLE, but "My Apocolypse" gives me hope for the new album. I'm lovin' that song.

"The Day That Never Comes" is an abomination, though.

I sorta dig "My Apocalypse," and I didn't think that "The Day That Never Comes" was too bad. Better than anything they've had since the Black Album.

It seems like they're getting back to their thrashy roots. Thank God.

I agree with ya on the radio version. But on wmms they play 3 or 4 songs from the album on the maxwell show. I'm impressed they are finally are trying to go back to the master of puppet days!!!

Huge fan of everything up to the black album.

Can't stand anything since. Heard "The Day that Never Comes" and thought it was terrible. Can't believe Rick Rubin is behind THAT.

I'll try to find another one of the tunes, anything along the lines of Puppets is welcome. I'd like to see them put out an instrumental album, 8 songs similar to "Orion."

I've liked the songs I've hear so far. I'll give them a real chance with Rick Rubin in the mix. Rick Rubin is better than Bob Rock any day! I never liked the direction Metallica went with Bob Rock. I know I'm not alone on that one. For me, Metalica is/has been/will be Kill'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ... And Justice for All.

I really liked And Justice for All... Black, and Load. Never liked Master of Puppets. I think their best song is Fade to Black..Yes I know that was on Ride the Lighting album. Did anyone actually like St Anger? lol.. I think the new stuff is still trash. They lost it and should just do their older stuff for reunion tours and such. I actually prefer Heavier Nu-Metal now which is ironic that I like their softer stuff more.

I don't consider them a band, until the black album.

It could be said that you're not a real Metallica fan then, eh? The black album put them over the top. I loved it.

My fav was And Justice for All, but i think the sound of that album wasn't very good.

Metallica had their ten years in the sun, as they say. Usually as soon as the main songwriter finds God and/or gets sober, the songwriting goes down the tubes, at least somewhat.

Just look at Megadeth.

Nonetheless, Metallica was absolutely GREAT for a long, long time. Now they are so-so. And such is rock 'n' roll.

P.S.
They shouldn't have ever done 'unplugged' on MTV. They need distortion!!!

Metallica is one of the worst bands ever formed. James Hetfield can't sing and Lars is the most overrated drummer in the history of music. Cap that off with the fact that he's annoying and killed the industry by promoting Napster through his obnoxious ranting about them when he should have focused on who in the band, studio or management released a copy to someone so that it could be leaked. He's an idiot. Metallica SUCKS.

Eh, I kind of like "The Day That Never Comes". I don't really like "My Apocalypse" it feels forced, like they were REALLY trying for their old sound a little too hard. One things for sure, I don't like the drum sets in either of the songs.

Everything after And Just For All stinks.

Ugh, I quite dislike Megadeth. Dave Mustaine is a self-righteous show-off. A one man show, and his lyrics are terrible. All he's good for now are his widdley-widdley-wah solos and hilariously lame lyrics ("Cross my heart and hope YOU die!").

Their early work is still better than anything Metallica has ever done.

I disagree, but (and I'm not being sarcastic like most people on the internet) that's certainly not a problem if you feel that way.

Absolutely agree.

Almost everything after the "and Justice for all......" has been terrible. There are some exceptions, but that was the end of the Metallica I loved.

I figured I would hook more people. I mess with a guy at work about Metallica, telling him I am going to make a loaded/reloaded cd and bring it in (he threatens that he will smash it).

I argue they are better and sing the like 5 words from 'King Nothing' I know Smiler

I told him about this thread and people saying they were getting book to the roots, he won't drink the kool-aid though.

I don't even give them *that* far. I like "kill 'em all" and "ride the lightning". "master of puppets" was the beginning of their downhill slide, "and justice for all" could have been a better record if ulrich and hetfield's egos had let them actually mix the bass into the record- and anything after "justice" isn't even worth mentioning.

right around 1990, metallica became a different and sucky band. they peaked in '84.
