I agree, this is a class-act by Learner...but I agree also with eo....Bernie needs the Browns more than we need him....(1.5 mil..)
Don´t know what Bernie can offer more than what we´re getting from Jim B. and P. Warfield...both of whom are ex.O. players....I like Bernie..always have. |
We need Bernie as OC!! Oh well at least he is involved again. I would never want to see him as QB coach. Can you imagaine Bernie trying to coach up the mechanics of the side arm delivery?
My standards are pretty low, so I am never dissappointed. |
IT'S ABOUT TIME! The BROWNS owed this to Kosar and I am glad that it is going to happen!
Amazing............6 weeks into the season and we are having a yard sale so we can move.
Cleveland should be voted the biggest DingDong fans of the NFL. My standards are pretty low, so I am never dissappointed. |
This sounds like a way of Learner selling tickets and helping out Bernie who needs the money.
I can also see Mangini not liking this. |
Agrred VA I alsohave had the honor and mirror your comments! |
It would love for him to be our oc. He's a great offensive mind. That will never happen tho because whoever the coach was would fear for their own job with him on the staff

well anything could help us at this point. im for it

I do not blame Bernie for drinking, this team will do that to a guy.
Fire "Shotgun or Bust" Daboll now! |

Bernie knows offense. Bernie knows what makes a smart QB. If he could offer his input in getting a new OC or finding a new QB, I would listen. Bernie always has smart things to say during his football commentary. He's very knowledgeable.

Off to a fast start in the New Era of Bernie
Bernie Kosar says Brady Quinn could use a fresh start: Cleveland Browns morning news roundup By Starting Blocks October 20, 2009, 6:10AM APBrady QuinnFormer Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar says that Brady Quinn is probably better off he gets a new start elsewhere. Kosar, now a consultant with the Browns, said on WKNR yesterday: “Multiple systems and multiple coaches haven’t worked out in Cleveland. Maybe a fresh start will help him out.” The NFL trade deadline is today. A story in CantonRep.com speculates that several teams could use a quarterback like Quinn. Those teams include Miami, Seattle, Tennessee, Buffalo, Washington, Carolina, Oakland, Tampa Bay and St. Louis. Kosar hesitated when asked if Quinn would be traded. "Ummm, you know what, I think it would be tough … It’s a tough spot for him right now,” Kosar said. “I personally like seeing that he’s unhappy not playing. You don’t want a young quarterback that’s happy being a backup. “People should cut him slack if he is frustrated and does say something that’s maybe a little negative in terms of wanting to play. “If something’s out there …” Progress: QB Derek Anderson has only completed 11 passes in his last two games, but coach Eric Mangini made it clear that Anderson will remain No. 1 against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Browns are 31st in the league in offense and 30th in points scored. They have scored four offensive touchdowns in 72 possessions this season, but Mangini sees progress. In The News-Herald: "There have been times where we've moved the ball really effectively," Mangini said. "The drive we had at the beginning of the second half is indicative of things we can do. "There were some positive things that I've seen throughout the course of Derek working at quarterback that I think will get better." Wildcat offense: The Browns' Wildcat offense wasn't wildly successful against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Steelers' defensive end Brett Keisel was impressed with Josh Cribbs. In CantonRep.com: “He just made great plays,” Keisel said. “We knew they were gonna do Wildcat. We worked on it during the week. “But Cribbs is Cribbs. He makes big plays. He was the only reason they were in the game, I think. He’s a helluva player.” So what does coach Eric Mangini do now? Keep the offense and run more plays with Cribbs? Quarterback Derek Anderson doesn't have a problem with the formation. “It’s different, but I think it helps us,” Anderson said. “It gives us ... I don’t know what we got yardage-wise on it ... but we did some good things with it. --------- Welcome to Cleveland! Home of the famous Tiredcat formation and the premier place that QB's come to kill their careers. |

Me neither, he is a respected Brown, and bashing him is down right insulting. Not Funny! Respect all, fear none. |
wow, bernie freakin KOSAR!!!!
maybe Learner is getting his head out of his behind! Maybe the offense can start to chug along faster, and smarter |
I don't believe hiring Bernie was just for show to placate the peasants. If Daboll wasn't feeling some heat he should be feeling it now. I can only believe this move was made because even Lerner can recognize the offense is horrible, and while he along with the rest of us could expect the offense to struggle at times, I doubt he thought it could be this bad and he wants to know why. So he needed someone he trusts to give him a knowledgable assessment of the offense.
I would question Bernie's qualifications to be offensive coordinator because I don't know how well he would organize and motivate the players etc. He simply doesn't have any experience in those areas that I'm aware of. But if there is only one man on the planet who has ties to the Browns who has 100% credibility in determining whether the playcalling is adequate, it's Bernie. He'll be able to tell Lerner how much of the lack of performance is due to playcalling or execution, and perhaps lack of talent. ********************************************** Nothing shocks me anymore. Well, except for the cop with a Taser that one time. |
Agreed. Adding Bernie to the mix can only help when it comes to the decision-making process where the QBs and next year's draft picks are concerned. He will be able to inform Mr. Lerner what the team needs to make the offense productive. Rob Ryan and Brad Seely seem to be getting their respective teams on the right track, now we need to get the offense on track as well. It won't happen this year, but I think with Bernie's help we can start showing some signs of production as early as next year. |
Our team is soo bad we have to resort to talking about Kosar 6 games into the season, how pathetic. I wish we'd bring him back to play qb, I'd take a 50 year old Kosar over these 2 clowns.

I must be the only one that thinks this is an absolutely stupid move. No wonder everyone says we're dysfunctional. How can RL hire a HC and give him free reign to build his team, his way, with his system and them bring in somebody else that knows nothing about what Mangini is doing to stick his nose in and cause trouble? If you're Mangini what kind of message does this send to you? Bernie was a great player for the Browns but if he was all that as a front office type of guy why didn't any other teams ever hire him? Just imagine, Bernie's down on the sideline watching practice taking notes on a little tablet. After practice he goes off with Lerner to talk about Mangini and the way he's running things. Next thing, instead of worrying about improving the team, Eric is worrying about what Bernie is saying about him. This will lead to nothing but friction between people that are supposed to be focused on one thing: making us a better football team.
And for people that say this is to keep the fans happy i say who cares. If the Browns spent as much time trying to improve the team as they did trying to appease us, we'd probably have a decent team by now. Nobody forces us to follow the Browns, we do it because we love them. They don't owe us a damn thing. If people don't like hearing that too bad but i think it's the truth. Browns fans have got to be some of the most impatient fans in all of football. People are already talking about running this regime out of town after 6 games. what then? start over and give somebody else 3 or 4 years? It takes time to build a team the right way. Look at Marvin Lewis and the Bengals. They could have easily fired lewis after a couple of bad seasons but they didn't and now look at them. Kicking Pittsburgh and baltimore's a** in back to back weeks. Get it together Lerner! |
browndawg80, you made some interesting points about Mangini wondering what Bernie is saying to Lerner after 6 weeks. Isn't that the same position Eric put Quinn in?
Fans are impatient? I wouldn't say that, frustrated, yes. We've been waitng 10 years! I get the impression Bernie doesn't care for Quinn that much. Saying he needs a fresh start ----------------------------- Select Eric Berry PLEEEASE! Formerly, kosarforOC |

I dont think that it means he doesn't care for BQ....I think that means he had a chat with EM and Mangini told him that DA was going to start PERIOD. I dont think this has anything to do with 70% snaps and 11 million $$$.....I think it comes down to EM honestly seeing something in DA that just doesn't translate well on game day. I was checking my phone all day to see where BQ would get traded to...guess Im still waiting. Mangini made his switch, it would just make him look even more foolish to switch back now. DA in for the rest of the year......Good thing there weren't high expectations this year!!!
GO Browns!!! |
Well hopefully besides Bernie bringing insight and football knowledge to the team,he'll act as an appeaser to the weary fans.It could only be a good thing at this point.
Ya its not about the money! Its never about the money rofl Do me a favor, take a look at your bank account today...add the millions Quinn would get if he reached the snap count. Were not gonna make the playoffs and there is plenty of season to see what BQ can do after the magical snap count number passes. Im not saying its a bad business move, but after the snap count is out of reach and we do NOT put BQ back in... EM will lose the last 1 or 2 espn peeps that have not bashed him yet. I HOPE its about the money and not the decision to start a 2/17 guy in front of anyone! wow can you imagine! |

Mangini & Kokinis brought in to evaluate player talent.
Kosar brought in to help with the upcoming draft, and evaluate GM, and coaching talent. "We may not get there in one year or even one term" Barack Obama |
How do you bring in a guy who has never coached or been the GM of an NFL team to evaluate those that have? I think your way off. Unless you have an office in Berea. My standards are pretty low, so I am never dissappointed. |
![]() |
About as odd as the coach selecting the GM. Bernie knows more about football than he gets credit for, and quite possibly... the both of them put together. "We may not get there in one year or even one term" Barack Obama |
I would never dispute the guys knowledge, I know he is a genius when it comes to the game and Genius is an understatement. I dispute the fact of him being able to evaluate talent or criticize a GM one way or the other. Kosar is much better suited to Coordinating and play calling...........No he would be a GOD there. My standards are pretty low, so I am never dissappointed. |

So If Bernie is higher up in the chain of command...he wouldn't be in place to voice his opinions and make decisions on the ones below him. Or is he only there to provide RL with football knowledge, so Randy can make the decisions based on the information Bernie shares with him? "We may not get there in one year or even one term" Barack Obama |
Maybe I am reading too much into this but thinking long term here... I don't believe that Mangini likes or thinks that BQ or DA is the answer at QB and really who can blame him after the first 6 games... Lerner brings in one of the most celebrated Browns QBs of all time to do what? Could it be possible that Bernie might be helping with evaluated the QB position for next year say like a Colt McCoy or Bradford? Possibly a later round pick like a Locker or someone from the draft to be our future QB? Just throwing it out there...

BB&KB--EM&DA------BB was always seeing "things he liked" in KB. He was kind of alone in his thinking, enh?

It's hard to say just what his role(s) will or will not be but here are some that I feel or would like to see him perform.
1. Being a consultant to the Offense: Helping to define an offensive philosophy and identiy for the future with the coaching staff. Help with the Scouting Dept. in evaluting talent especially at QB and skill positions. Help develope the QB position with film study , reading Ds, learning to audiblize and game plan. 2. Be a laison between RL and FO and coaching staff. 3. Work with the Browns Alumni Assoc. 4. Public Appearances and media exposure. Bernie can not be afraid to speak the truth but must also be careful to keep the party line and not cause desention among the ranks. 5. Stay in the broadcast booth during Pre season. Bernie in MHO can do any, all or none of these things but the one thing he can't be preceived as is "Randy's little spy". M/K have to know that they're in charge of running this franchise and that BK is an other tool for them to use for success. It will at least interesting to see how this whole thing works out JMHO GO BROWNS!!!!!!!! |

I agree this is an ACT by Lerner, only time will tell how much Class it has.1) Bernie has no say so on player Bernie has no say so on trades or strategy or play calling. Bernie has no official capacity other than a fan liaison? So what does that mean? Who knows. We dump Winslow and save $$$$. we trade out of the #5 pick for chumps change and Jet castoffs and save$$$$. We hire a coach paid by the Jets and save $$$$ we hire another rookie gm and save $$$. Lerner and Mangini tell the fans patience and days later dump Edwards for more Jet castoffs and a #3 and save $$$$$. We won't pay Cribbs to save $$$$. We won't play Quinn because of Contract escalators to save $$$ even though DA is playing down to Todd Philcox level of infamy. The O coordinator says DA has only one way to go and that's up...as if that were a vote of confidence. And the first thing out of Bernie's mpouth is to say "maybe it is better for Quinn if he has moved on". 5 Frickin games and you give up on a #1 pick and you give the lunk head Couch five years of screwups. I have a horrible feeling that Bernie, who is Broke is selling the last thing he has left, his good name with the fans to put a rose on this cow Pie Lerner is foisting on the Best Fans in Pro sports. I hope to God I am wrong, but that betrayal would seem to preclude a move part2, maybe to LA? |

I don't know..But Randy better hide his key to the liquar cabnet or Bernie could end up costing him a lot more money!

I am a recovering alcoholic and believe me from living through it all I have learned that you have to walk in a mans shoes to understand what it is that can be done to help.
How many of you have been through a divorce ? How many of you ever stopped to think ! What part did you have to play in the matter. How many of you went through struggles, but you thought nothing was your fault and blamed everybody and thier brother for all your problems ? Man up and walk in a mans shoes before you start to fire bullets and cut him down in cold blood before you even know who this man really is inside. God Bless you Bernie !!! Every one remember YOU CAN'T get through life all by yourself !!! We all need something, someone, a little faith and a HIGHER POWER to get through this life which I call HELL !!! Start building a little spiritual balance ! I am not talking religion. Religion is for people who are afraid to go to HELL. Spirituality is for people who have already been to HELL. I one of you BROWNS players, owner, or any part of the BROWNS organization or true BROWNS BACKER LIFE LONG NO MATTER WHAT please take this to heart !!! |

I really dont give crap if Mangini likes Bernie being there or not. Something has to be done--even if it means putting Bernie out there as OC
---- |
Mr. Lerner, please make Bernie our offinsive cordinator, he obviously can read a defense better than what we got and he did it as a quarterback was one of the best. the offense looks to me like they've given up on what we got.
Id love to see Bernie as the OC, he is rather smart. On the other than I have to also agree with the comment that he needs the Browns more than we need him.
