Rac says Winslow comments are a team distraction!
I dont blame K2 for being upset.
Why should he have to hide a staph infection? Rac and Phill
Have there blinders on! They are holding KW and the rest of this team back, with DA under center. I almost forgot to mention all the terrible calls Rac has made too!

I don't blame KW2 at all for speaking up. How would you like it posted all over the internet that you have an undisclosed mystery illness, and have everyone speculate on what's wrong with you. Not a class move by the Browns organization to tell him to be quiet about it, and then to threaten disciplinary action when he does say something. Way to create another problem when we've got enough already. JMHO

All I heard was blah blah blah...

How can this be more of a distraction then the media ripping on DA's play or BE drop passes?

Now we have Vickers and DA issues.

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns coach Romeo Crennel confirmed Monday that tight end Kellen Winslow was hospitalized last week with a staph infection and may discipline the Pro Bowler for comments made after Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins.

Winslow
"Sometimes the emotions of the game and the emotions of your personal situation kind of overflow," Crennel said. "So I think he probably said some things that he didn't need to talk about to the media."

Winslow spent three days in the Cleveland Clinic with the infection, which has been a problem for the Browns in recent years.

Last week, the club refused to disclose Winslow's illness. On Sunday, the 25-year-old revealed he had staph and complained about the team's handling of the situation.

"We'll investigate it and determine if anything needs to be done," Crennel said. "My policy is to keep family business in the family. So whatever I do, I do and I'm not going to broadcast it."

Crennel said they haven't determined whether a fine would be involved for Winslow's comments.

Walker: Still A Taboo Subject?

Staph concerns have resurfaced in Cleveland thanks to Kellen Winslow's recent stay in the hospital. And it continues to be a touchy subject, writes ESPN.com's James Walker. Blog
• AFC North blog
"With anybody who has staph, you're talking about your life," said Browns tight end Darnell Dinkins, the team's union representative. "It's bigger than football. It's bigger than a game.

"Other than that, Kellen is a good friend of mine, so anybody who has a condition or issue like that you want to make sure he is protected and he is healthy."

Winslow said he "felt like a piece of meat" and was disappointed general manager Phil Savage didn't check on him when he was in the hospital.

Browns kick returner Joshua Cribbs said he wasn't overly worried about a potential staph outbreak.

"It's not a concern for me, but I know the organization is doing everything it can to combat that," Cribbs said. "We had meetings about that earlier this year and they reassured us that it wasn't going to be an issue. But players had concerns."

i thought this over a few times, but i am siding with winslow on this one...

listen if you get staph at work, and your company is trying to hide it... and you know that 5 other people got the same stupid thing, you would want everyone to know about it, cause they have to stop it and stop it NOW!

its your life man, seriously.. the browns have to come clean and stop hiding the problems... if there is a problem, they need to do something about it.

ESPN Winslow commentsFollowing Sunday's 14-11 loss to the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow wanted to get the truth out on what had sidelined him for the previous week.

Winslow

Winslow told ESPN.com Sunday night that his "unspecified illness" was a staph infection.

This is the second time Winslow was diagnosed with staph, and it's at least the sixth known case with the Browns in the past several years.

Teammates Joe Jurevicius and Braylon Edwards also are among the recent Cleveland players to contract staph while with the team.

Winslow was quiet about his previous condition for nearly two weeks until revealing it Sunday night.

"I didn't want to be a distraction and I didn't want it to steer us away from our focus, which was on the Washington Redskins,'' Winslow told ESPN.com. "Then I thought about it, and thought about it, and this is the right thing to do to get it out there and let it be known that this is not right.
"They didn't even want me going to the Cleveland Browns' facility because they didn't want me to get re-infected. Something is wrong up there. It needs to be fixed." Winslow spent about a week recuperating and missed the Oct. 13 game against the New York Giants. He said he was very upset with the way the team explained to the media that it was Winslow who didn't want the information public, when Winslow said it was the Browns' idea to hide his condition.

"Nobody knew that I had staph on the team because the Browns didn't want it to get out,'' Winslow said. "But it's my teammates' right to know what's going on at the facility to protect them. Their safety is at risk, too, and I didn't agree with the Cleveland Browns, because they are protecting the organization and not the players."

Winslow said he had a recent one-on-one talk with Browns general manager Phil Savage before deciding to speak with the media about the staph infection. It was the first time the two talked since Winslow was sidelined, which also was a point of discontent.
"I didn't get a 'How are you doing Kellen? It's good to have you back.' Nothing like that,'' Winslow said. "I was very disappointed. I basically told him I don't feel appreciated on this team by you, and I feel like a piece of meat sometimes."

Winslow said he plans to make a statement through his publicists Monday. He also reiterated to ESPN.com Sunday night that this is strictly a disagreement with upper management -- not anyone else -- with the way the Browns mismanaged a serious health issue.

"I love my teammates and I love my coaches, but I disagree with the front office with how they've handled this,'' Winslow said. "I'm going to play for the Cleveland Browns regardless because I love playing here. I'm not going to let anyone take the love of the game away from me. I'm going to keep playing like I've been playing, which is hard every down."

Yes RAC...let's get on KWII for speaking up about a known problem that apparently the organization wants to sweep under the rug. Go ahead and take action RAC...then you can officially start counting down the days you until you are fired because whoever is playing for you is going to "mail it in". So much for being a "player's coach" with your hands off approach and cupcake training camps. A player's health concerns should be important to an organization. If they aren't, why the hell would ANYONE want to play that organization? Hey Berea...wake up!

All I know is that I'm sick of the losing and sick of the soap opera. Can't these people just play football and manage to win some games while they're at it?

I have to agree with RAC on this one. Winslow has no business ranting to the media about this sort of stuff. For a "soldier," he sure needs his ego stroked A LOT.

we have to remember people, that a staph infection can cause one to lose a freaking limb for crying out loud!! why in the world is this mess of a franchise still at the dog gone clinic that they are at at this point? how many staph in fections to our high priced players is that now? six?? it is pathetic that a team in a league that makes so much money should subject their players to such nonsense. let's just see what they do when a guy like brady quinn gets a staph infection in his throwing elbow and it ends his career....and then we have to go back to derek anderson for our qb duties....well, i guess quinn would have to start first for that to happen ha?? lol....

And Winslow has repeatedly discussed how loyal he is to this team. Yet he keeps publicly asking to be traded before seeking any other recourse.

Staph infections are very common, especially in the knees. One reason we have had so many staph problems is we have so many players that keep tearing up their knees. If Winslow hadn't been the idiot that he was, he wouldn't have injured his knees in the first place and then he would likely not be having these issues at all. A lot more of the blame falls on his shoulders than anyone elses. Secondly, staph has been repeatedly shown to be much more prevalent in certain geographical areas. Most experts believe this to be because of the staph-bacteria's sensitivity and insensitivity to certain weather and environmental conditions. Maybe the franchise just needs to be moved across the country and we would have less problems.

Staph can cost you more than a limb, it can cost you your life.

If a QB gets staph in his elbow, they can just call it diminished skills and waive him.

Please link us to quotes by K2 where he 'keeps' asking to be traded.

Dont quote him the one time he said he 'thought' about it.

I'm on Winslow's side. Romeo and Phil just need to shut their trap about Winslow and discipline. And maybe start being more proactive to protect the health of all their players. Phil needs to get on the phone with Winslow and try to work things out. If I had to choose between Winslow or Savage, I'd take Winslow! And by that I mean I'd rather Phil to pack his backs and leave, then Kellen Winslow!

NaTaS, I dont think he ever said he wanted to be traded, yet. I am backing you here man. All I have ever heard is he 'thought' about asking to be traded, but he said himself he was being bigger than that, which is what I like about him. He is one if not our best player, after missing 2 years with serious injuries. He plays through pain week in and week out and if the FO wants to discipline him, I hope Winslow gets traded at the end of the season because he deserves better than that. He plays for the love of the game, and he plays through pain, which he doesnt have to do.
