Hey everyone, I don't post discussions much, so take it easy on me..
I like the discipline that Mangini is trying to teach the Browns. I like the fact that he came in with his plan and if players didn't like it, well he let them go. IMO, Josh Cribbs is the ONLY player on the Browns that any other NFL team fears. Our offense is aweful and our defense is giving up an NFL worst 407.3 yard per game. Are we seeing a step in the right direction? I am not sure on how well Mangini's first draft was. I like the additon of Alex Mack. MoMass and Robo..we will see. Our rookie defenders..we will also see. I have not seen any IMPACT players, except maybe for Mack. The Browns cannot afford to have another bad draft next year with the 11 picks we have right now. I will give the Browns the benefit of the doubt and say that they will go 4-12. But again, will we see a step in the right direction? So, when was the last time where there were 5 Free Agent coaches who had Super Bowl wins that could possibly be available in one off-season? In 2010, these coaches will possibly be available: Mike Holmgren-SB XXXI, Green Bay Packers Mike Shanahan-SB XXXII&SB XXXIII, Denver Broncos John Gruden-SB XXXVII, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Bill Cohwer-SB XL, Pittsburgh Steelers Tony Dungy-SB XLI, Indianapolis Colts I would like to read what everyone thinks about maybe adding one of these guys if things may not work out with Mangini. I am definately for giving Mangini a few years to build "his" team. It is only fair, or is it? ------------------------------ Cleveland & Ohio State sports..well it's just in my blood. |
I prefer Dungy out of anybody on that list
I dont think we'll be looking for a head coach in 2010. I could be wrong but I dont think so. Give Mangini another year ATLEAST, things will get better |
First of all the team sucked before Mangini got here so, it's not his fault what happened before he got here. Even though a lot of people like to blame him for before he got here. You can't fix a crappy team in 1 year.
Second of all you can cross Cowher off your list he didn't want to come here last year and i doubt he changed his mind since then. I also doubt that Dungy would get back into coaching that soon he seems content on what he's doing with helping people. Not saying he'll never come back but, i doubt he does next year. As for the rest of them no thanks! Gruden left the Bucs in a mess Super Bowl or not. Holmgren has a Super Bowl win and another appearance but, it seems like he didn't leave Seattle off that great either. Shanahan seemed like he lost a little of his magic at the end too. Let's be honest what has he done since Elway retired? A whole lot of nothing. Holmgren GM/President and Mariucci or Gruden Head Coach. |

Mangini will be here for the long haul...every one is panicking too quickly!
Im past counting our record....here is to bringing it every week and improving our team as a whole! |

CTown, appreciate the discussion.
However,in no way is Lerner going to give up in one year. The new regine NEEDS time to work the drafts. I will admit, I was a Savage fan ( Since I live in Mobile, AL.) was a plus. But now we sit back & refleck & giving away our draft picks has caused much of this pain. Now the new regime wants to build through the draft. Proof is in the pudding, last draft we ended with 7 when we started with 3. This upcoming year, we are already up to 11. Time to kick back & enjoy the ride. It's going to take three years to see this through. If it works, we will have a long term solution which I believe we ALL are in agreement is the goal. So these threads are way to early, especially in first half of first year. JMHO Remeber, even Savage said the Browns leap frogged in 2007, thats why he made the splash with FA. CW,SR,DS, some worked, some didn't, but he did have a plan. Somewhere he & Romeo lost the "same page" and we were caught with no draft picks. Lets see how EM&GK work the plan. So far we can't say because its a lack of trying. I for one am willing to give it time. Besides, what can we do, stop watching For me that is not an option. If we wanted to change names to a new regime, with the names mentioned, we needed to hold on to Romeo for one more year. If I only new then what I know today... |

When you first mentioned "add a guy"I thought you were talking about a cordinator(offense),than I noticed the coaches (realized none would take cordiantor jobs) and I read you were talking about Mangini.
Mangini is going nowhere and I am thankful. We are for once headed in the right direction.Sure we have alot of pieces missing to the puzzle, but that's why we have acquired 11 draft picks to date. I will say this,Kokinis and all of our scouts had better be working o.t. because we need to be sucessful on at least 7 of those 11 draft picks. If we don't have a very sucessful draft next year, along with all of last years picks coming along,we are in store for another long 10 years.Next years draft is more crutial than any we have had thus far.GO BROWNS!!! |

Wanted Shanahan last year.
Would love to have him next season. |
Really? Why would you "love" to have Shanahan? What has he done without Elway? The Broncos seem better without him. He couldn't even win what was it 1 out of 4 games to win the division last year. They had a big lead and allowed the Chargers to win it at 8-8. Holmgren GM/President and Mariucci or Gruden Head Coach. |
no way does lerner get rid of mangini, he was his choice of coaches thus him signing before kokonis. The only way we change head coaches in the next 2 years is if we suck worse next year or if lerner sells the team. Hated the fact after we hire mangini , gruden gets cut in tampa, not sure if either has what it takes but what other option we have
yeah idk lerner will fire mangini after one season, however i do like the discussion, tony dungy would be a big yes in my book but he does not wish to coach anymore, shanahan i thought of but i would much rather have Jon Gruden ON forever with Cleveland |
No Cowher EVER. Other than being a STeeler forever, and failing many times, I have a suspicion he payed the refs in the Seahawk game. I watch alot of football and I've NEVER seen a more poorly called game.
Dungy no- He cheated us out of a playoff spot and I can hold a grudge ------------------------------ We are NOT better without K2! We need a new OC, and maybe head coach too... |

Terrific!
We go 0-4 vs opponents that were 14-2, we then chew up and spit out the juggernaut Buffalo Bills 6-3, then get beat by a steelers team that will no doubt be there at the AFC North finish..... and .....now we have a "Who do you want as our new HC in 2010" post. Mangini isn't going anywhere for 3-4 years. First off, he was LERNERS PICK! Lerner will give/do anything Mangini needs to win. No chance in "heck" Lerner goes to the media and says, "Sorry folks, I screwed up, here's your new HC for 2010. Secondly, I'm sure Mangini and Kokinis told Lerner EXACTLY what needed to be done and what they were going to do before each was signed. And no doubt they told him that they were going to tear it down, build, and win in 3-4 years. Guaranteed they didn't tell Randy that they'd win right-a-way. They told him the cold, hard truth and he was good with that. Or, like so many have, I can jump on the proverbial "Bandwagon", holler louder and louder on why we're not 6-0 and call for Mangini's head to be replaced with a legend in coaching. Who knows, maybe their "legend" status is in question and the only was to cement it is to coach the Cleveland Browns to SB victory after SB victory after SB victory... Or, I ask as well as the boys on the ESPN show ask, C'MON MAN. Hence, "C'MON MAN". MNFs Don Meredith on Fair Hooker: "I never met one". "Badges"? "Badges"? "We don't have to show you any stinking badges". |
CTown good food for thought, but here's a question. When was the last time a coach won a Super Bowl with one team and then coached another team to a Super Bowl win? I don't believe this has happened before. Granted I don't have anything against any of these coaches, but sometimes once you win the big one and move on you can lose a little bit of an edge.
Right now it looks like Randy is solidly behind Mangini and I think rightfully so; therefore, this talk about getting a new coach is just that but it does provide something to think about. Of all these coaches I would say Dungy would top my list. The one thing about Dungy and Cowher is that I've felt they both had teams talented enough to win multiple Super Bowls, yet they didn't do that, but that's nitpicking. |

Why would you want to replace Mangini? This team is playing great Browns football, and the quarterback controversy has NEVER been more vivid.
Having a QB competition this summer during the install was genius. I want to see another one next year. We can call it... Quinn/DA 2 "Rumble in the Dawg Pound". The following year... Quinn/DA 3 "The thrilla in Vanilla". -------------------------------------- Abandon hope, all ye who enter here. |
I don't care who we get as long as Mangini is gone...
We will have to put up with the H/C but do we really have to keep his choice for O/C
GO BROWNS.....HECK WITH THE PLAY-OFFS SUPER BOWL BOUND......RELEASE THE DOGS OF WAR..... |

Good point. ------------------------------ Cleveland & Ohio State sports..well it's just in my blood. |
I agree. We better see some vast improvement of this offense..quick. I like Mangini's choice in Rob Ryan though. ------------------------------ Cleveland & Ohio State sports..well it's just in my blood. |
Yeah the recent draft picks are painful to this organization. I just hope the rookie defensive players we took this year will make some sort of contribution. I'm excited to see what this team will look like in a few years. ------------------------------ Cleveland & Ohio State sports..well it's just in my blood. |
I'm one of the few that seems to like Mangini - plus it isn't like he created all of the problems - we have Savage and Crennelephant for that. Unfortunately it will take time to clean up the mess. K2 and edwards needed to go for trades before they left as free agents anyway. Let's face it - outside of 2007 - they weren't that good given all their penalties and attitudes, and immaturity. We have 11 draft picks coming up, and a whole lot more cap space for them now.
Before BE and K2 left at the end of the season, I agree we needed to get what we could for them. As for Crennelephant..haha! ------------------------------ Cleveland & Ohio State sports..well it's just in my blood. |
I am glad he's gone - he just looked so overwhelmed all the time.

You are right. He DID have 2 losing seasons in 10 seasons after Elway retired. He must be terrible. |
i'd let the chin in anytime he wants to. I dont hold it against him that he wanted to take some time off and spend it with his kids and recharge his battery. I hope he sits out this next season too and then when mangini fail again we can hire bill where bill wont have to play against the players he drafted and that have kept tomlin a float.
Can say anything you like but Cowher KNOWS how to coach, win, and build a team that consistently play hardnosed football. "The way I see it, these fans would party on Saturday if Ohio State won the national championship, but the city would burn down if we won the Super Bowl.” Joe Jurivicious |

I dont think we'll be looking for a head coach in 2010. I could be wrong but I dont think so. Give Mangini another year ATLEAST, things will get better[/QUOTE] good call that things will get better. how can they get any worse? when players quit trying that is pretty bad. i think we did it last year and i think they will quit this year too. the players are not buying into the boygini stuff, and it shows both off and on the field. - with the 1st pick of the 2010 nfl draft... the cleveland browns pick... |
![]() |
Only temporarily though... With the many changes that stare this team in the face for 2010, those that don't want to buy into it will be gone, and Mangini is going nowhere. Most of them have been playing un-disciplined football for so long now, they may never adjust, and play the game the way it's supposed to be played. The dead weight will be gone, and hopefully replaced by team players that gel together. "We may not get there in one year or even one term" Barack Obama |

the players are not buying into the boygini stuff, and it shows both off and on the field. Funny, I don't see this @ all. Outside of BM22 looking like he gave up, it could be he was injured??? Talent may have something to do as well. How bout the terrific turn around on penatlies??? That just doesn't happen if the players didn't care or quit playing. If I only new then what I know today... |

The only problem with these coaches is the fact that they won a superbowl. I know that sounds weird but if you look at the history it shows coaches rarely take 2 teams to a superbowl and win. I think that would be the ultimate goal right?
Orange,Brown or White are my colors |

Mangini will be here next year, and many of the Browns issues don't lie with him. He will get this team to turn around, but you have to look at the caliber of players on this team. If anything, Cleveland goes out and gets a real OC, and starts to add players that will contribute immediately to the team. I posted in an other link that DA will be the QB of the Cleveland Browns next year, and people were not welcoming to that fact. But look at the FA QB's out there next year, and you'll see why I said that. The only name that sticks out is Orton, and the Broncos are going to lock him up! Unless you want another Substandard QB, DA will be the Browns QB next year! Give him something to work with, and he will be ok!
What is fair? Mangini has destroyed the base of this team for Jets castoffs and peanuts. We have another rookie GM using his veteran football acumen to make the choices( a chimp throwing darts comes to mind). and top coaches are coming available as he sticks with DA. Lerner won't get any of those guys. The Jets are on the hook to pay Mangini. Lerner hires another rookie GM. he dumps and the stars and will dump Quinn and won't even pay Cribbs. We are in a groundhog day of football hell and the spell won't be broken until Lerner opens his wallet and pays a top man to do the job and quits hiring rookie GMs. But I don't see that happening. We may have seen our only win of the season. At what point does the defense look at DA and Mangini and QUIT. They did on Crennel after the Colt game. They held Manning to three points and LOST due to no Offense. Unless Lerner sells the team, and he won't because it is a cash cow: this is what you will get. |
What base of this team did Mangini destroy? He traded away KII and Braylon. Hate to break it to you but that's not a solid base. A TE and a primadonna WR who would have left after this year is not a solid foundation.
Now if you would have said he traded away Joe Thomas and Shaun Rogers you would have had a point. Also, we have no idea what another coach might have wanted. Maybe they would have done the same thing. |
I haven't seen anything out of mangini that is impressive, here on in new york. The only reason I could think of for hiring him in the first place was they needed to get rid of crennel and no one else was available. I would just like to see us get a real coach that has proven themselves as a winner in the NFL. I dont care where they come from, who they have coached in the past or anything else. I just want a team that wins, jmo but i dont think mangini has what it takes to turn and NFL team into the winners we all want to see. I personally dont believe DA is a qb you can win with and mangini isn't a coach we can be a winning team with. I understand this is only mangini's first year but if you look back at coachs who took over poor teams they came in and began moving in a very clear direction and were very decisive. He has not been decisive and I haven't seen any clear direction the team is moving in unless its backwards? I'm not a DA or BQ fan, but I don't feel BQ has been given enough play time to properly evaluate him and a leader and qb. If he can't don it then we need to get rid of both DA and BQ and find a qb who can lead this team. I'm not calling for mangini's head, I just dont believe he can turn things around.
Keep Magini and Ryan, get rid of the OC and get a decent QB either draft or vetern through FA to hold down the fort for a year or two. Magini will have us atop the AFC North before you know it.
Only after the last tree's cut And the last river poisoned Only after the last fish is caught Will you find that money cannot be eaten |

all i can say about firing mandummy is i'm tired of a losing team and bringing in another h/c would only provide more losing i've been a browns fan since i can remember and this happens to be the most frustrating season i've witnessed players can't tackle catch the ball block get pressure if these players played for a performanced based contracts they'd go hungry as far as the def is concerned scrap this pathetic excuse of a 3-4 def it's disgusting we have better d-linemen than lb's and that's not saying much o/c is a joke as well especially when even i know when they are running or passing are we that bad or do we call the same plays on the same downs during the same situations i mean come on where is the commitment to winning as far as i can see it's been a commitment to losing
Mangini needs to go ASAP.
If he doesn't win another game (very, very likely), they should just fire him before the last game. |
What is there to like about Ryan. This defense sucks more this year than last year. The OC and DC need to go. Unfortunately, Mangini will get a few years to turn thing around though. Wrap your mind around that fact and come to terms with it. |
He just made us worse. bringing rejects from his old team did anyone else see that new LB we got for Edwards not bring down Rogers lol omg thanks Mangini he looks like a good one! Wonder how you ever got those great players from the Jets..we sure showed them! BTW DA is not making progress... I keep waiting but... we seem to be going backwards. |
