Browns fans has seen enough and seen it all. Why not listen to us and see if there are some good ideas. Here are my ideas

Collect pieces over time: Do not try and solve everything with one person and think that Cowher, Parcells or Belichick or some look-a-like will single handedly fix this. If some scouts or an assistant coach is working, keep them. If your head coach is not the savior but has a good plan for long term success and continuity then keep him. In every administration that has passed through Cleveland there were pieces that were working, would still be working, and would be part of why the organization had been succeeding by now if we did not wipe the slate clean for every savior we bring in every three years. Some pieces may already be in place. Right now that sounds like Dawn Aponte, the scouting organization, and maybe even the head coach. Certainly Brad Seely is a keeper. So keep them.

The Players: Same goes for the players. Keeping all of your current players and adding with the draft each year is a pretty good way to develop contiuity, cohesiveness and depth. Free agency is to fill in where this strategy exposes you to a lack of personnel (retirement, injury, lost to free agency).

President, Football Operations: Why does this person have to be a personnel or coaching genius? I think too much ego and too much risk for dysfunctional behavior starts from these attempts. Why not a hire a highly intelligent, high ceiling, intensely driven, incredibly successful (hopefully across multiple examples), business adminstrator with NFL experience; a selfless leader willing to admit he/she does not know everything or need to know everything but has to have the best plan and build the best team. Is Dawn Aponte this person? This person would naturally put people in different roles that have specific talents to complement the whole. Perhaps the GM would in fact be then strictly a personnel guru. The coach would only coach. All football operations administration could be left to the President to direct. Would it not be easier to find coaches if this was the only thing they needed to do well? Would he not have more time to do what he should be able to do well? Same for the GM. Would he not be able to focus? Would he not have more time to devote to his expertise?

GM: Consistent with the above message. Personnel. Personnel. Personnel. Find highest intelligence, highest ceiling, most successful, intensely driven, selfless personnel person with the best plan. Do not look for a savior. Even if you have to get rid of him, if he has a good plan then he leaves the whole thing in a better situation for the next person.

As for the head coach: Find highest intelligence, highest ceiling, most successful, intensely driven, selfless head coach with the best plan. If that is Mangini, great. I might buy that. But please then tell whoever is the head coach to coach football. He has enough to do if he is going to do that well. And any head coach that does not know well enough that he needs to focus on the product that takes the field each week when he is losing games each week, then does not get it. If we have a coach that gets it then keep him, please. If we do not, then he does not have the right plan. Second, and very importantly, is he willing to make the tough changes to the coaching staff each year. When there are flaws in the assistant coaching staff the coach has to be willing to address these issues. If not, then he does not have the right plan. I thnk Mangini could be the right person for the job but he will now be tested this offseason.

Finally, succession plan. This has been missing since the return. Good organizations do not go outside to hire very often, they have the solutions already in house. Even if you are grooming individuals that end up elsewhere, a reputation for being very good at developing future leadership will pay enormous dividends over time.

These are just a few tips I offer for now. What are your thoughts?

It's all about organization and the more you read about EM's shrugging when he loses two people around him who are supposed to be friends (Kokinis's dad was his wrestling coach), it just gets crazier and crazier. That this think tank became extremely introverted (not releasing information) and basically controlled by one person - and now that person will try to save face the remainder of the season. Prove us all wrong here please but an organization essentially works together and it all begins at the top. One person picking another, one would think in theory would work, however there needs to be levels of diversity when you come to the meeting table, that everyone is heard and that the organization (organizational behavior) can get it together.

I offer nothing here from an organizational standpoint (we have all worked with success and failure at some point and we know it when we see it), but at least get us to status quo.

The Steelers, Giants, Pats and Colts seem to have been the best models during this "new century" of how to do it correctly. But for your reading enjoyment:

Only if they are my IDEAS Wink

If you ask enough fans you will eventually get the full spectrum of A - Z regarding what to do. With contradictions galore.

I admire Randy's decision to listen to the fans. But regardless if it meet my views or not I would hate for him to make decision based solely on that. I think its important for him to get the basic feelings of the fans and I am sure he know our frustrations. But some will say play BQ some will say play DA some will say Run the ball more some will say pass the ball more.

All that would do is open Pandora's Box.

Although I do get this reoccurring dream where Randy contacts me and asks me to run the Browns....lol Big Grin

Kokinis Gone - maybe Holmgren coming.
Mangini brings the Browns up!
Remember its a 3 year program.

eo...I´d lay money on the fact that that dream moves around quite a bit... Razzer

I could be dead wrong but I assume Dawn Aponte is a lawyer....cap rules, $$$stuff ....might be a full time job as it is and she is said to pretty good at it...plenty of experience...

The main problem with the Browns is thier organzational structure, Right now they have a 1st line Manager ( Mangini ) having more power and say then his would be Top Managers, GM , President, owner etc. That is a scrwed up organization if you want to call it that.
The Browns needs to delegate the authority starting with the top President down to the Head Coach. The President should have the power over everyone and so on down, with that said, regardless who has the power over whom, They still need to work together as a team, The power thing should only be used when a stalemate situation occurs and a decission needs to be made. No way should the Headcoach should hire his boss! That spells disaster as we all witnessed!

Browns Forever 16-0 or 0-16 always a Browns fan

The problem starts at the top.
The Lerners have made poor hires.
They have went with FOUR IN A ROW ROOKIE GMS.
Poor drafts lead to always overpaying for mediocre free agents.
After the ruins of 08 Lerner promised to hire a top GM to conduct a thorough search for the next head coach, he DELIVERED a GM Toady and Man rushed Mangini after he was rebuffed by Scott Pioli.
Get a top GM and let HIM decide if Mangini stays or goes. But that won't happen. Lerner is always mewling about the misspent millions of other dunderhead moves so we are always trashing today and tomorrow because of yesterday.
Until this owner gets that in a league comprised of top teams with top personnel departments, a decision by the fly concept is doomed. green GMs get snookered in trades and conduct poor drafts. I can fairly say many of the fans here would have been hard pressed to have conducted so wretched a start as the one the rookie GM Dwight Clark concocted as he blew a slew of extra picks and two entire drafts with hardly a player worth keeping. And we have had rookie GMs with every regime. That is Lerner. It starts at the top. Until he gets it and coughs up the dough to run his team on a professional level to compete with the NFL elite , we will be a doormat team on Sundays.

That's true in general. But I think everyone would agree that RL needs to give control of football operations to a proven NFL professional, not another wack job as GM from the Ravens. I swear the Raven's FO send these known idiots here to destroy our FO. Eeker

Oh I'm all for that...and I think this action will actually be CLOSURE to our frustration and finally the right direction. Even if said power guy deems Mangini as the right HC. It will be different as Mangini would be 100% for the Field and not involved with Running Everything. Giving us the best of what he has to give. And possibly there is some good there.

And you know...IF not, then we go with another. But I think we have enough young talent on this team to produce a winner within 3 years...No more expansion 5 year plans. I expect the Power Guy to finally have us in Power Grid of the HAVES in the NFL. But of course I would - I'm a fan.

I agree with all of that EO..Actually I thought RL was going to do that after Crennel and Savage. But then he had a knee jerk reaction and hired Mangini that put us all here.

And if you can listen to the not only the words but try to understand Randy's "THOUGHT PROCESS" he truly thought Kokinis could "GROW" into that kind of GM. Did he make a mistake thinking that? Well evidently so. Plus those who were there simply weren't willing. Maybe, just maybe Ron Wolf??? And I'm guessing.

But Holmgren stated he wanted a year.

First guy Randy interviewed was Cowher as that guy.

People make a big mistake and state Randy hired Mangini and PIOLI didn't want to come here....no Randy Interviewed Mangini FIRST...and then Pioli's Interview came and out of the two Randy was impressed with Mangini's Plan. We shunned Pioli not the other way around.

But we did not hire Mangini until after interviewing Pioli.

If I'm wrong please correct me. But thats the way I remember the course of action - cause I was surprised that Pioli left our building without a contract and the guy....

I really don't think Mangini was as knee jerk as is portrayed. There was a big picture drawn up and it pretty much fit to the picture that Randy was Imagining. Part of that picture was Kokinis to Grow into a Strong GM take control kind of guy. Like a Ron Wolf with Holmgren type of Ying Yang - obviously Kokinis was not exactly the take charge guy as presumed.

I got a feeling on what was going on now...but Kokinis sat back and thought all would just come to him...instead of being an Alpha Dawg and rolling up the sleeves and making things happen...if he and Mangini clashed...sit down and iron it out - sometimes to LEAD you must concede, but it must be your decision to concede or not. Kokinis just didn't take the opportunity to LEAD evidently. In that regard Randy knows he made a mistake.

Just cause the MEDIA portrays it all as Knee jerk cause they ALLLLLLLL had Pioli getting the job - don't make it so.

JMHO

Mangini brought in 25+ players. Mack has been improving game by game. Rookies usually take time, so judging the other rookies would be premature. Not so in judging the others. Name one Jet player who has been better than average. GD? RT? TE? Bowens has the biggest "claim to fame". He has 1/2 a sack in 8 games.

We have at least 11 picks coming. Mangini is a lousy judge of talent. He also fumbled the QB situation in New York. He did not learn. He is still fumbling the QBs. Mangini will not admit that he has a problem. Without that admission, there is no hope for rectifying the problems here.

Enough of the "blind faith" already.

Right or wrong these are not Mangini guys. These leftovers are not buying into what Magini is selling. Is anyone surprised? These guys like the country club atmosphere Crennel was offering.

Who do we believe? Media preaches it is a complete mess. Is it? Learner hasn't a clue. I mean come on. He is a businessman running a financial business in these times. He has to have some once of brains. He turned around a disastrous soccer team in England. Learner did his homework put together a business plan. He needs to be a better judge of character.

I thought Learner had the right idea hiring Kokinis and Mangini. Two young guys with the fire to make it work. It was a very risky move. If proven correct, Learner would be king. I still think a fresh new face in the NFL is the way to go.

In order to make it work, the person Learner hires next must be a good communicator a skill both Kokinis and Mangini lack. I love for the new guy to be young and somewhat of a maverick. Cleveland needs a high energy follow me type guy.
