One week of camp. Are we going to pick our roster now? Bet a snicker, that RAC has not yet picked the 53. Hall gets yelled at for being slow getting on the field. Does that mean he has a bad attitude? He is lazy? He is hearing impaired? Forgetfull? Why don't we give these rookies a little slack until the last preseason game. If they don't get it, we aren't out much. Hall and Rubin could be keepers, as could BB. Rucker looks like a lock. That makes for a very nice draft. A very good looking D. I won't cry about our CBs until they fail...which I don't think will happen. Ps. Pool we be very good.

Before I got to the heh heh...I thought you were someone posting under a different name. Bored..kinda, but then again any day one of these rookies can start looking like a keeper. If our starters only play 1st quarter, it will tickle me. I want to see the 'the rest of the players'.

Just like everyone else on this forum, Im familiar with first stringers to practice squad players stats, and physical attributes..

...none of it really matters to me right now.

Im so excited for this season, that I just cant wait to see Orange Helmets on the field.

I dont care who's wearing em.

SYKED!

I hope last night wasn't a sign of things to come - especially on secondary.

The one series the starters played, they did stop the run. However, no pass rush and large cushions looked eerily similar to last year.

You gotta figure that the people who got torched were AJ Davis, Steve Cargile, and Nick Sorenson. Of the three...one of them has maybe a 30% chance to make the team. These guys don't matter in week 1.

We won't know until they are covering Owens, Witten, and Crayton.

The guy that by far played the worst out of our secondary was Cargile. The guy broke several of the cardinal rules of safety-play multiple times. He routinely left his assignment before he knew for-sure where the play was going. He didn't play the big-play first. And he sure as heck didn't keep his guys in closing-range. He also didn't look very fast.

Sorensen looked pretty good. He was in the right place on pretty much every play. He played smart and with good instincts on most plays. He looked like he had some pretty good athleticism as well.

AJ Davis actually played pretty well. He showed me a lot of speed. The guy is pretty darn fast. He played his coverages pretty well. He kept good position on most plays. The play to Clowney was not his fault at all. Cargile was completely to blame for that TD catch (the first one).

Mil'von James didn't look as fast as I've heard he is supposed to be. He blew his coverage on Clowney for the second TD. He attempted to jam Clowney at the line and wasn't able to get it done. Clowney got a free release. James attempted to catch back up to Clowney off the line and just couldn't get there. Clowney then gave a little stutter-step and James bit on it hard. This is what caused him to get so open. Cargile allowed the big catch to turn into a TD by not keeping Clowney in striking distance, but it took both of them to epicly phail in order to allow that play.

Our d-line looked fine when it was on the field. They only played a handful of snaps and Williams played less than half the first series. Besides pass pressure is something that develops throughout the game as the O-line gets worn down. Just like the run game develops as the defense gets worn out. That is why it is important to get a lead going into the second half. If you can be able to run throughout the second half and force your opponent to pass, you stand a very good chance of making plays on both sides of the ball.

Actually they played 2 series. The 2nd that you missed was a 3 n out. Get your facts straight Wink just missed by one series? lol Big Grin of course that would be 50% of the data.

enjoy

Shaun is a game changing IMPACT D Lineman.
The fallout from this is that our linebackers will be wrecking havok on the oppositions (K W is a sack machine), Smiler )Shaun being in there will unleash him because they will have thier hands full trying to keep SR out of the backfield.
CB's and S will have an easier time of it as a result, as well.
Also the Corners, and safties wont have to cover

I don't think you understand how little talent we have on defense. We were putrid. You sure have been on the Shaun Rogers bandwagon. Detroit wanted to get rid of him because he was fat, lazy, unmotivated, soft, and a problem in the locker room. I think he will have a good year this year, but I wonder about the next couple after that.

You made some bold claims, so I went and looked up a few things.

Defensive Stats:

Yards per Game:

Detroit was 32nd in the NFL, that is last. They gave 377.6 yds. per game. The Browns were 30th, giving up 359.6. The Steelers were first at 266.4. Kinda hard to believe that he did a lot of game changing w/the fallout being the linebackers wreaking havoc last year in Detroit.

Points per Game:

Detroit was last in this one too. They gave up 27.8 pts. per game. Cleveland was 21st, giving up 23.9 pts. per game. Indy led the league, surrendering just 16.4 pts. per game.

Yep, Shaun made a huge impact. Roll Eyes

Passing Yards per Game:

Hey, this is better. Detroit was 31st. They weren't last. They gave up 258.2 yds. per game. Apparently, the corners and safeties did have to cover for long periods of time. Cleveland was 24th, giving up 230.1 yds. per game in the air. Tampa Bay led the league, allowing just 170.5 yds. per game.

I think Rogers will help. But, let's not get carried away. He was sent packing by Detroit because he was the classic underachiever. The Lions defense was almost certainly the worst in the league.

I just hope our defense can get itself off the field once in awhile this year. Watching several game tapes the last couple of days was extremely painful. The defense was pathetic. And to think.........Detroit's was even worse. Eeker
i agree with vers' dawg....we will barely be mediocre, at best...a team needs dominate players to be a dominate defense...and we just dont have any game changers on defense. we will improve but is that saying much after we gave up over 350YPG and gave up over 25PPG...??? lol GO BROWNS!!!(...despite the D)

btw Frank Ryan I owe you a My Bad - apparently (didn't check 100% but believe so from info reported on the What I saw thread) Our starting D only played the first down of that 2nd series (3 n out) as the Delay came after that play and when we returned we made the switch to the 2nd unit. So that the last 2 plays of the 3 n out were not the starters. Red Face

So how silly am I scolded you for getting the facts straight...and here I am not doing so. So apologies out there Wink

Kudos to EO for admitting a mistake. Smiler
I hope we see a lot more of the starting D tonight. And it would be nice to see some PRESSURE on the dang quarterback. Smiler *crosses fingers*

We really do need to see the starters on defense for at least a few series to get some kind of idea where we are at.

The defense better. We should have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL and not have trouble scoring points. Whether we make the playoffs or not will depend on the defense. I think the D will come through and we will make the playoffs.

GO BROWNS!
