PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh linebacker Andre Frazier was carted off the field on a stretcher with a spine injury after the opening kickoff of the Steelers' 23-20 overtime victory over Baltimore on Monday night.

He was walking around the locker room and talking to players after the game, but two of his teammates sustained season-ending injuries in the game.

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall fractured his left shoulder in his first career start.

Starting right guard Kendall Simmons tore his right Achilles and backup running back Rashard Mendenhall, starting in place of the injured Willie Parker, fractured his left shoulder. Both will be placed on injured reserve, according to coach Mike Tomlin.

"We have some injuries that we need to deal with, that is part of football and we will (deal with it)," Tomlin said. "Our standard of expectation will not change. We have to go to Jacksonville on a short week, such is life in the National Football League."

The Ravens lost staring running back Willis McGahee to a chest injury for most of the second half.

McGahee carried 12 times for 41 yards before getting hurt on a 1-yard gain late in the second quarter. McGahee is recovering from offseason arthroscopic knee surgery that limited him to 15 carries in Baltimore's first two games.

McGahee was twice forced to leave Baltimore's previous game against Cleveland because of eye injuries.

Mendenhall, making his first NFL start, left the field on a cart after injuring his shoulder on his first carry of the second half. Mendenhall, who had 30 yards on nine carries, was replaced by Carey Davis, a fullback who had only two carries coming into the game. Davis injured his ankle, meaning the Steelers were without their top three running backs.

Frazier was running down the field when he was blocked by Haruki Nakamura of the Ravens and went down to the turf. Both Frazier and Nakamura are former University of Cincinnati players.

Frazier was moving his legs and hands while trainers, as a precautionary move, removed his facemask before he was taken off the field.

This is Frazier's second stay with the Steelers after originally signing with them as a free agent in 2005. That season, he injured his right leg during the AFC championship game in Denver and missed the Super Bowl two weeks later. He also played briefly for the Bengals in 2006, but returned to the Steelers last year.

Boy o boy ..... what a shame. Two starters down for the season. Ouch, big ouch!

I know Steeler fans thought they had a rookie gem there in Mendenhall.

Well ... there's always next year!

Wow everyone else in the division getting banged up. We are starting to get healthy. It's a long season guys, Pittsburg is now going to have to beat people through the air, hard to do if your QB is flat on his back (Oline has given up 15 sacks already this year, most in the league). The opportunity and the door is now open will our Browns walk through?

For this particular situation, it is appropriate in both forums.

The discussion in the Looking Back Forum is appropriate because it happened during a game and would be discussed as part of the gameday discussion. That forum is deleted toward the end of the week.

The discussion in this forum is also appropriate as these are season ending injuries and will affect the team as the season continues.

Although I hate to see any players get seriously injured, I still take comfort in the fact that we aren't the only team in our division that has to deal with these kinds of problems. But I want to be able to beat these teams whether they are 100% healthy or not.

Imagine if we lost Jamel Lewis, Steinbach, Harris and DA was as banged up as Big Ben. Could we do what the Steelers did and WIN the game on the last drive, just food for thought.

We need them to miss about 5 "beats" between now and when we play them again. Then, we need to hand them a beatdown of our own.

I agree with you. It is my personal opinion that the only reason we beat Cinci was that the timing was off with Fitzgerald & the Cinci off. So yes this brutal schedule the AFCN has I think injuries will determine the AFCN Champs.

I am sorry, but we are not winning this division. Look, Im a diehard browns fan and always will be. However i have seen enough of this team in preseason and the first 4 games to know we are not challenging for the division. It's just not happening. This team is undisciplined, out of shape and poorly coached. I will be cheering for the browns as always, but unfortunately I dont see us winning more then 6 games...maybe only 5

Something else you might add to your list is hard hitting. I've watched a smattering of other games in the past few weeks ie. Bears vs Eagles, Colts vs Texans, Steelers vs Jags and I don't see the Browns hitting near as hard or with the intensity as I've seen in some other teams. Why, I'm not sure. JMHO

GO BROWNS!!!!

Something tells me that even if BigBenji gets hurt that Leftwich's career will be reborn better than ever.
