DETROIT -- A little after noon, I stopped to have lunch at a restaurant maybe 40 yards from Ford Field. After about 20 minutes I looked a couple tables over and there was Leigh Bodden.

Yep, that Leigh Bodden.

I’ve always liked Leigh and was glad to talk to him for a couple of minutes, but that’s not the best part of the story. About 10 minutes after I first saw him a group of fans came in – about six of them, probably fathers and sons – dressed in jerseys.

There was a Jon Kitna jersey, a Calvin Johnson jersey, a Brady Quinn jersey and – yep – a Leigh Bodden jersey, a Brown one from his days with the Browns. The whole group, including the teenager wearing the Bodden jersey, walked right next to Leigh’s table on their way to the restroom. Not one of them had any idea Leigh was sitting there.

And Leigh laughed so hard he had to put his head on the table.

Five things I think as kickoff time approaches…

1. I think I saw about 400 Brady Quinn jerseys in a seven-block radius around the stadium. And all that was in about a 45-minute time span.

2. I think Shaun Rogers is going to bring his A-game today. I know he downplayed the whole homecoming angle, but I’m glad I’m not Jon Kitna today.

3. Speaking of that, I think both teams are holding their collective breath about entering this game with just two quarterbacks healthy and active. The Lions lost Drew Stanton for at least a month to a thumb injury earlier this week.

4. I think the Browns will meet Romeo Crennel’s challenge and play much better today. I don’t know what that will translate to, and I don’t know if actually winning the game means anything. But I do think you’ll see a more focused, inspired team full of guys anxious to prove they belong.

5. I think Kitna will look to Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson early and often, and having to defend those tall, athletic receivers today will serve the Browns’ young defensive backs well going forward.

Stay tuned for more…
