Many of you probably don't remember, but I compared last year's team to the 1979 team that was also 9-5, then lost their last two games and missed the playoffs. Well the 1980 Cleveland Browns that finished 11-5, won the division also started 0-2. What do you think we were saying then? You can look below to compare.

1980 Cleveland Browns
9/7 L 17-34 at New England Patriots 49,222
9/15 L 7-16 Houston Oilers 80,243
9/21 W 20-13 Kansas City Chiefs 63,614
9/28 W 34-27 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers 65,540
10/5 L 16-19 Denver Broncos 81,065
10/12 W 27-3 at Seattle Seahawks 61,366
10/19 W 26-21 Green Bay Packers 75,548
10/26 W 27-26 Pittsburgh Steelers 79,095
11/3 W 27-21 Chicago Bears 83,224
11/9 W 28-27 at Baltimore Colts 45,369
11/16 L 13-16 at Pittsburgh Steelers 54,563
11/23 W 31-7 Cincinnati Bengals 79,253
11/30 W 17-14 at Houston Oilers 51,514
12/7 W 17-14 New York Jets 78,454
12/14 L 23-28 at Minnesota Vikings 42,202
12/21 W 27-24 at Cincinnati Bengals 50,058

1979 Cleveland Browns
9/2 W 25-22 at New York Jets (OT) 48,472
9/9 W 27-24 at Kansas City Chiefs 42,181
9/16 W 13-10 Baltimore Colts 73,889
9/24 W 26-7 Dallas Cowboys 80,123
9/30 L 10-31 at Houston Oilers 48,915
10/7 L 35-51 Pittsburgh Steelers 81,260
10/14 L 9/13 Washington Redskins 63,323
10/21 W 28-27 Cincinnati Bengals 75,119
10/28 W 38-20 at St. Louis Cardinals 47,845
11/4 W 24-19 at Philadelphia Eagles 69,019
11/11 L 24-29 Seattle Seahawks 72,440
11/18 W 30-24 Miami Dolphins (OT) 80,374
11/25 L 30-33 at Pittsburgh Steelers (OT) 48,773
12/2 W 14-7 Houston Oilers 69,112
12/9 L 14-19 at Oakland Raiders 52,641
12/16 L 12-16 at Cincinnati Bengals

It's pretty similar don't you think? And I don't know about you, but can't you see Anderson throwing a crucial interception in the playoffs? Ha Ha just having some fun, but this team does remind me of that era. Can you imagine what we were saying in 1980 losing the opener in New England 34-17 and then coming back home and blowing one to Oilers? That was a terrific offense that also had a slow start, so don't jump off of the 480 bridge just yet. I hope I'm right.

On a side note, I miss the Houston Oilers Frowner That was a fun rivalry. I always wanted to smash 'em, but in a more lighthearted way than with the Steelers or Ravens.

To get back to topic, thats actually nice to know, maybe my hope isn't misplaced Smiler

It is time to panic and please stop with your lame history lesson.

Only 3 teams have EVER made the playoffs after starting 0-3, so losing to the ratbirds would end our season 98%.

Are you young? Steve what is lame is that you don't see the comparison. If you would like something more recent, I think last year's Super Bowl Champs started O-2. I know it might be tough for you because you haven't seen the Browns play well, possibly in your lifetime, but lighten up. It is two games, yes 0-3 would be a awful, but until that happens why not look for something positive. That 1980 team was a lot of fun and I remember when they lost to the Broncos our fans wanted to fire Rutigliano because we felt the team wasn't playing with any fire. We are fans, we overeact and that is the fun of it. What would really upset you is that after Monday the players have already moved on. The losses eat us up more than most of them. Lets hope they beat the Ravens and who knows maybe that will spark a winning streak, but if not then maybe after the year our team will have to take an inventory and make some changes. Until that happens I will hope for the best.

Thanks. The interception comment just proves I am a Cleveland Fan. Too bad it really doesn't matter what we believe and have seen, the only thing that matters is what that team believes in the locker room. I sincerely hope they will wake up from the sleep they have been in since the Cincinnati game last year. Here's to hope.

2 of the top 4 teams in the NFL last year started off the season really bad

NY Giants started 0-2
San Diego Chargers started the season 1-3

outside of last years Patriots, in recent history the teams that have started out of the gate like 6-0, or 8-0 have failed to get to the Super Bowl, and at least a couple of times... where knoecked out early in the playoffs

Broncos, Chiefs, Colts just to name a few.

i do think we need to win these next 2 games to get back into it, but November and December is when the MEN are grown up and PLAY!

Yeah, I mean I know they share the stats history and everything, but different name, city, uniform and not the same division anymore :-/

To me they're as much the Oilers as the Ravens are the Browns, even if the original team didn't come back.

I remember those games well. What an exiting time it was for us.

We should have won that game against the Vikings in 1980.
